A feasibility study of reducing scour around monopile foundation using a tidal current turbine

چکیده
The monopile foundations of offshore wind turbines in shallow waters are susceptible to be affected by tidal scour, which takes away the sand and soil around monopiles poses a serious threat safety turbines. To mitigate this issue, much effort has been made previously. However, all existing protective measures do not have added value other than scouring mitigation. In view this, new scour mitigation measure that utilizes current turbine (TCT) is investigated study, can only reduce foundation but also generate clean power simultaneously. research, proposed method studied using combined numerical simulation laboratory testing approach. Both calculation experimental results shown TCT installed front an does positive role reducing when it generates electricity meantime. Moreover, contribution reduction further improved through optimizing its installation position turbine.

The Turbulent Wake of a Monopile Foundation
An experimental programme is presented, examining the turbulent wake of a monopile foundation in a current. Velocity was recorded across an extensive domain downstream of a model monopile in a 0.5 m deep basin, using an acoustic Doppler velocimeter array. The distribution of turbulent kinetic energy (TKE) is examined across the entire domain. Tests were undertaken using several combinations of ...
متن کاملStudy of NACA 0015 for Diffuser Design in Tidal Current Turbine Applications (TECHNICAL NOTE)
Tidal energy is the most foreseeable form of renewable energy. Tidal energy can be harnessed by tidal barrage, tidal fence and tidal current technologies. Present efforts are focused on diffuser augmented tidal turbines that exploit the kinetic energy of the tidal currents. The power output by a tidal turbine is directly proportional to the cube of velocity of incoming fluid flow. Thus, even a ...
متن کاملAn Investigation into the Effect of Scour on the Loading and Deformation Responses of Monopile Foundations
Severe foundation scour may occur around monopile foundations of offshore wind turbines due to currents and waves. The so-called p-y curves method is suggested in the existing design recommendations to determine the behavior of monopiles unprotected against scour and the reduction of effective soil stress is accounted for by the extreme scour depth. This conservative design approach does not co...

15 صفحه اولDesign and testing of a contra-rotating tidal current turbine
A contra-rotating marine current turbine has a number of attractive features: near-zero reactive torque on the support structure, near-zero swirl in the wake, and high relative interrotor rotational speeds. Modified blade element modelling theory has been used to design and predict the characteristics of such a turbine, and a model turbine and test rig have been constructed. Tests in a towing t...
